1. What this service calculates

Enoughpairs calculates the stock a laundry loop needs in order not to run out. Given how often the washing happens, how many pairs are worn in a week and how long things take to dry, it works out the steady state of that loop: how many pairs sit in each stage at any moment, how many are therefore unavailable, and how large the total set has to be so that the drawer does not reach zero.

It is arithmetic about a queue. Occupancy of each stage is the flow rate multiplied by the time a pair spends in that stage. The requirement is the consumption across one wash interval, plus the lag before clean laundry returns, plus a buffer.

2. Where the numbers come from

The calculation runs in your browser, not in a model. It is deterministic: the same inputs produce the same output every time, on any device. The constants it uses are published in the interface — half a day on your feet, roughly two and a half hours in the machine, and a drying time that depends on the method you pick.

A language model has exactly one job here. If you would rather describe your week in a sentence than set the controls, the model reads that sentence and proposes parameters — a wash frequency, a number of pairs a week, a drying method. You can see and change every parameter it proposed. The arithmetic then runs from those parameters, in your browser, exactly as if you had set them yourself.

The model never produces a quantity. If it misreads your sentence, the parameters will be wrong and visibly so, and you can correct them.

3. The result depends on what actually happens, not what you intend

The result depends on how often the washing actually happens, not on how often it is planned. Planning two washes a week and doing two washes a week are different things, and this service works from what you enter. If you enter your intention rather than your habit, the figure it gives you will be too low, and it has no way to detect that.

The real lifespan of your own pairs is also unknown to it. Yarn, knit density and how hard you are on a heel change it more than anything else, which is why the top-up guidance is a range and stays one.

Unexpected extra training or travel changes the result too, and the service has no way of knowing about either.

4. Everything is a range

All quantities are given as ranges, and no assurance is given that stocking to them prevents you running out. A single number would be a false promise about inputs that are not knowable to the decimal. Where the interface shows a figure it shows a span — 14 to 16 pairs, not a flat one.

Alongside every result the service publishes a list of what it cannot know. That list is shown on every plan, including the free one, and it is never obscured by the free-tier card marking.

5. What this service does not do

This service sells no socks. It recommends no brand, no retailer and no subscription service, and it provides no purchasing route. It answers only how many pairs are needed; where they come from is outside its scope.

It is not connected in any way to any physical sock or clothing subscription, and it never suggests one.

This service accepts no images at all. There is no upload control, no camera access and no way to send us a photograph of anything.

6. Not advice, and not for high-risk use

Nothing the service produces is professional advice. Do not use it for medical, legal, financial, safety, employment, credit, housing or judicial decisions, and do not use it in any safety-critical or life-critical system.

7. Bias and error

The arithmetic has no training data and so no training bias. The sentence-reading step uses a general language model and can reflect the assumptions in its training — for instance about what a normal week looks like.
